It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Alvin (Al) Roy Fisher on January 5, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by family, at HSC.
He leaves to mourn his wife, of 63 years, Doreen, son Douglas (Karen), daughters, Alison Kremski (Gary) and Andrea Trudeau (Ron), grandchildren, Russell, Tyson, Lea and Dayna, four great-grandchildren, two brothers, George and Forbes and many extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Ruby Fisher, brother Gordon and sister Vera.
Al was born on July 15, 1938, in Bowmanville, Ontario. He was just a young man when he moved to Winnipeg and started his 30 plus year career at James Richardson and Sons, which he absolutely loved. He married Doreen Owen in 1962 and bought a new home in Windsor Park where they would raise their 3 children over the next 30 years. In retirement, the two would move into a condo on St. Anne's Road and would remain there to present day.
Al was a cherished member of Elmhurst Golf and Country Club for over 60 years. Everyday, rain or shine, from opening day to closing, you could find Al with his dearest friends on the course right up to this past summer at age 87. In the winter he enjoyed getting together with the guys for bowling a couple of times a week and never missed a chance to cheer on his grandson and then great-grandson from the stands in the hockey arena.
Al was a happy, fun, generous man who never had an unkind word for anyone. He was well known for his big, bold and infectious laugh. Al's absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew and loved him. He was truly, and quite simply, one-of-a-kind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. where extended family and friends will be welcome to share their favorite memories of Al.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Harvest Manitoba, where Al volunteered for a time, or to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba.
